How to run deep in an Aussie Millions Event!

It really is simple to run deep, just follow these simple rules; win all coin flips, flop sets as often as possible and, if possible, wear something associated with 888PL.

Whilst the above may be tongue in cheek it really was the key to a successful run in the Aussie Millions Team Event last night. Paul Bell Inskip and I represented 888PL and finished third for $12,500.
There was plenty of representation from other 888PL members who were sponsored in or bought in directly and it was quite a pleasant sight to see three teams of the final 8 each have members of 888PL in them; all together 888PL players shipped a grand sum of $21,000 in this event!

Anyways, as this blog is all about me, let's talk about my success (and by proxy Paul Bell Inskip's). Paul has worked for 888PL since the early days, and is one of our greatest ambassadors; he is also a pretty decent poker player with one WSOP cash to his name (from his one lone event played). I also have a couple of five figure scores to my name and quite a few four figure scores from live and online deep runs.

Unfortunately I have not had a very deep run in any live casino events since 2008. A couple of min cashes and one shippage of a midday tourney is all I have accounted for in the past 2 and a bit years. The way I played in Event 1 was very disappointing and I had decided that I was going to play very tight aggressive poker and look to run deep in this event. I know Paul is a very patient player and would pick his spots well so I had no doubts that he could hold his own and compliment my style of the play.

But my opening table completely changed my game plan when I witnessed three bets and four bets in the first 10 of the 30 hands the aggression was unbelievable so I decided to play nitty, nut peddling poker until my table broke. I picked up a few key pots with JJ, QQ, KKand AK in the first five blind levels and Paul did the same but before we knew it we were playing with 4BB's.

Paul's miracle four card flush with 66 vs AJ and KQ was awesome and granted us breathing room as he tripled up to 80K. Just on the bubble I eliminated two players when a mid position and late position player moved all in and I called from the BB with 88. I spiked an 8 to outflop TT and AQ and pushed our stack up to 170K.

We burst through the bubble in no time and this is when I kicked my game plan into action, tight aggressive poker and take down pots pre flop wherever possible. I  thought this would work as it was the same payouts from 18th - 11th and many people would fold to try and make it to the next pay jump.

So when we were six handed with 12BB's (blinds were at 8K/16K) I decided that now would be the time to start pushing people around. I open shoved three hands in a row; K9dd, QTcc and Ac7h. I then had UTG open to 40K and I look down at TT and reship all in. Action folds to the UTG player and he calls with AK.
The board brings nothing but rags and I eliminate the final table bubble!

We came into the final table about third in chips, it didn't mean much when the chip leaders have 10 - 15BB stacks but it felt good to get there; I had said to Glyn earlier that I needed a deep live run more than I needed the money right now. It was good for the confidence.

The only hand of note on the final table was when it was folded to me in the cutoff with Glyn all in on the Big Blind. I decide I am going to try and induce a spew and instead of open shipping I raise to 45K (blinds are 10/20K). The button tanks for a bit and folds, the SB tanks for awhile and then announce all in. YES IT WORKED, I snap call and he rolls TT to be dominated by my KK. Glyn shows T7 off. The board bricks out and I eliminate two players.

I missed the action but in short order we were down to three handed and I find myself in the BB with 160K behind and 24K in the BB. Simon Watt on the button folds and the SB player looks at his cards and announces all in. Now the SB player and I started on the same opening table and spent most of the tournament breaking tables and traveling to the same table, he was a very good laggy player and I had seem him take down pots with JT/J8/67 all of which he opened from Early Position and most later in the tournament he was open shipping with. I look down at KJdd and decide that I beat or race with almost 95% of his shipping range here and snap call. Unfortunately he has Ace high with A4os and the board bricks out for us both.

The $7.5K payday felt good and now brings my total live winning to over $50,000. But making the deep run in a Crown tournament again felt awesome. Now I am put to the test on whether to play ANZPT and SA 888PL Teams or stick around for the Bounty event? Unfortunately the decision rests with my brother who flies into town tonight, once again one day late for my final table appearance (in 2008 I made two VIC CHAMPS final tables and he missed both of them by flying in the Monday after I finished 10th in the Main Event).

It was great to see 888PL players and TC's once again prove they are more than capable of mixing it with the best and it has inspired me to see more 888PL players waving the 888PL banner at major Crown events. NEXT STOP: Melbourne Champs Main Event and I want to bring at least another 20 888PL players with me; STAY TUNED..........

All the best on the felt and a special GOOD LUCK to Richard, Chad and Andrew who play in the Aussie Millions Main Event this week!
