Hi All,
Well I played event 1, for about 6 hours, before my KK ran into the flopped flush draw of a wonderful super aggressive player and he got there on the turn. I hate stacking off on flops with an over pair to a check raise but I needed a double up.
I played some scared poker and I was very disappointed with my performance; I needed to be opening more pots and three betting. I smoothed three times OOP with AQ, JJ and AK when I should have been three betting and applying pressure! Oh well, live and learn!
At least two other qualifiers did well and you can read all about it here: Aussie Millions Event 1 Results
As you can see I have another tourney this Sunday and am really looking forward to having some fun with one of the most honest, upstanding and outgoing personalities I know, Paul Bell Inskip. I also enjoy watching Pat Dillon and Mike Raines ship the event; they both have the same patient, pick the right spots, style that should see them travel far in this tourney (barring horror run bad stuff).
I am also pumped for 2011 right now, so many great things happening; I'm still sticking to my new fitness regime (not drinking isn't much fun on a Saturday night), my brother is over next week from WA (haven't seen him in six months), I'm traveling to SA to play in the Semi Final teams event and will be bringing a car load of Victorians to invade and we are expanding into NSW and are only 6 months away from a true national competition (this is a dream I have wanted to realise for some time). But the biggest of all is that I have booked a holiday for myself, I am taking the month of September off to travel around the US of A with my brother. It will be a road trip of EPIC proportions! I look forward to using the 888PL Blog to keep you all updated on my adventures!
Poker has taken a bi of a back seat over the past months, with my brother arriving I am skipping the Bounty event so I can spend some time with him and the family, contrary to popular belief Poker is not my life (although many of my closest friends would still disagree). I am still playing online at 888 and am up $7,000 over 166 tourneys.
The new Saturday Home Game fixture is awesome with some real big tournaments and overlay a plenty. If you're not playing online on Saturday nights, and are still sitting at home, you need to deposit today and get playing. Last weekend I shipped both the $20 Feature an $40 Bounty event for over $1,600 in prizes. Both these event are GTD at $1,000 and $2,000 respectively and generally only get 20 - 35 runners (MASSIVE OVERLAY). Check out the Home Game details here: Home Games
Well after today I am off for 10 days leave, and when I get back we will be ramping up the Grand Final preparations and I am so pumped for this. I really wish I was playing; the Crown Poker room is one of the finest poker rooms in the world and to play in a rake free tournament in the heart of Australian Poker would be AWESOME. For details about the Grand Final go here: 888PL Grand Final @ Crown Casino (March 11th - 13th)
Well that's it from me for the time being. Best of luck on the felt!
Cheers,
Garth Kay
