Quest for the Aussie Millions

Hi All,

Since 2008 my lust for the felt had waned considerably and, except for the occasional 888PL tournament, the only real effort I put into poker was a 2009 Melbourne Champs campaign (which was breakeven) and a month of part time play on 888 when the Poker 6 update released. Over the past few weeks I was able to attend both the South Australian and Victorian Semi Finals and participate in the Teams and High Rollers events; I performed ‘admirably” in  these events and surprisingly found the return to the felt challenging and quite enjoyable.

Even though I haven’t proactively sought competition or tournaments over the last two years it has always been a goal of mine to participate in the Aussie Millions; not just the Main Event but also some of the side events; such as the Bounty and definitely the opening event; so this right here will “blog” my exploits and adventures as I try and secure my seat through a multitude of avenues and satellites available.

Now, because I am the National Operations Manager for 888PL, I thought it might be nice if you, as players, could also join me in the chase for a seat and as such there will be close to 20 Aussie Millions entries to be won over the coming months online and at selected 888PL venues in Victoria and South Australia. For more details please visit these links:

At the moment I have selected the following events to play in:

•    Royal Oak Hotel – Monday, 29th of November - $50 Cubed for $3,000 in packages Guaranteed!

•    Hoppers Crossing Club – Sunday, 5th of December - $100 Freezeout for $5,000 in packages Guaranteed

•    White Eagle House – Sunday, 12th of December - $50 Cubed for $4,400 in packages Guaranteed. NOTE: this is a Geelong Venue

•    West Adelaide Football Club – Sunday, 19th of December - $250 Freezeout for a $15,000 Aussie Millions Main Event Package Guaranteed. NOTE: this is a South Australian Venue

•    Tigers Clubhouse – Saturday, 8th of January - $250 Freezeout for a $12,000 Aussie Millions Main Event Package guaranteed!
I will also be participating in 888 online feeders and trying to secure myself a $540 Qualifier seat into their Main Event Satellite. These are run at a very non friendly Australian time of 6.30am Monday mornings! I look forward to see how I go at this. For those who are unfortunate enough not to reside in South Australia or Victoria there will be a weekly online direct satellite to Event 1. These will be held every Saturday from 9pm onwards.
And finally Crown Casino has a jam packed satellite schedule and every now and then (when I am free) I will be heading down to play the occasional phase 2 and trying to win my Phase three satellite for another good shot at the ME. There are two very special events on the Calendar for Crown on Saturday 18th of December:

•    Main Event Mega Stack Satellite - $150 freezeout – three seats guaranteed (that’s $31,800 in seats) and a 30,000 Start bank! Excellent value right here!

•    Main Event Deepstack Satellite - $550 freezeout – 4 seats Guaranteed ($42,400 in Seats) and a 10K start bank.

These are two great value tournaments that any satellite specialist or Main Event wannabe should highlight on their calendars.

With such a loaded schedule for me and a renewed vigour to achieve my next five figure score (or even bigger) I will need to brush up on some of the poker basics and get back to the level I was at two years ago. As such I have given myself a $1,000 bankroll for online and live play and will return part time to online play, I have already completed 100 tournaments in the past two weeks and whilst I am not doing as well as I like I have discovered a few errors and problems with my games. I will be writing more in-depth articles about my game, skill levels and hand reviews for Mistress Poker. If you would like to check them out please go to www.mistresspoker.com.

Thanks for taking the time to read this and I assure you it will become more of an interesting read as I commence my quest right up until the completion of the Aussie Millions campaign!

All the best

Garth Kay
